I’m often asked if anti wrinkle creams really do work.
The short answer is, some of them do and some don’t! And the TRUTH is, most don’t live up to our expectations!
I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, and I don’t want to shatter your illusions, because it’s not ALL bad news! There’s a number of reasons why most anti wrinkle creams don’t work, and I’ll be revealing some of them here.
Why Most Anti Wrinkle Creams Don’t Work
A lot of the creams being vigorously advertised will not work for you because many do not have powerful active ingredients in their formula. You will see that a lot of today’s creams contain collagen, which is a very versatile skin care compound.
The problem comes in when the collagen molecules, which are rather big by the way, are trying to be absorbed into the skin. You will find that they are unable to permeate through so that they can be absorbed by the skin cells. The result is that the collagen is left on top of the skin, and when you wash your face, it also gets washed away.
Some creams use chemicals/ compounds/ ingredients that are manufactured cheaply and have no real impact on skin issues. You will see ingredients like mineral oil in your cream products that boast of keeping moisture locked-in so your skin remains supple and hydrated. The problem is that while it’s doing this, the oil is also blocking your skin from breathing properly. This compound solves one problem while creating another!
Even the preservatives used in maintaining the cream and helping it to last can have negative impact on your skin. Parabens and fragrances used for preservation of the cream are harmful to some skin types (sensitive skinned people) and you should check the labels carefully before purchasing creams with harmful ingredients.
Wrong Cream On Wrong Skin Equals Wrong Results!
One reason Why Most Anti Wrinkle Creams Don’t Work is because they are being used on the wrong skin. You need to know which skin type you are so that you can match the right cream to your skin type. There are five basic skin types: oily, dry, normal, combination, and sensitive skin. There are ways of checking your skin type so do that first before rushing to buy facial creams to help with your wrinkle situation!
Each skin type requires a different approach when it comes to caring and eradicating wrinkles on the skin. For oily skin, you need products that have zero sebum and oily compounds in them. For dry skin, you need creams that are not alcohol based and can moisturize your skin as well. You especially need to be careful with sensitive skin because very many compounds and wrong ingredients in the facial cream you choose can set off a chain reaction of events that can be devastating for your skin.
So Which Ingredients Work Best?
I found some evidence that antioxidants, when properly formulated and in the right concentration, can have effective results on your skin condition. The most tested and reliable ones can be found in compounds like Vitamin E and C.
A popular compound that is backed by lots of studies and tests is called Retinol. This compound is a derivative of vitamin A, and is in common use when you look at over-the-counter skin care products. For a more concentrated form of this compound, you can also check out Tretinoin. It’s more of a “prescription” kind of compound, but packs a bigger punch than Retinol. Careful though, because as you play with ingredients with more power there is also the risk of running into more side effects.
Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (that includes citric, lactic, and glycolic acids) are compounds that you will find in things like common fruits. When they are extracted and used in the right formulation for making cream products, they do have positive effects. They chisel out the dead cells on your skin, paving the way for new healthier ones. They can help your skin by removing wrinkles and fine lines. Each acid works slightly differently, but they are compounds that can be trusted.
Creams that have stem derived ingredients in them can help in stimulating better functions inside your skin cells and cause major positive changes in skin appearance and health. Other compounds like MATRIXYL 3000, POLY-L-LACTIC ACID fillers, and HYALURONIC ACID are also very powerful, dependable, safe, and well tested.
The Bottom Line
Even if there are various other reasons why most anti wrinkle creams don’t work, there are some out there that can get the work done effectively! You just have to be armed with the right information about your skin, the product you are selecting, the ingredients, and even the reputation of the manufacturer. Pharmaceutical-grade ingredients tend to deliver better results. Knowledge after all is power, so power yourself with the right knowledge and you are surely going to see the right results!
